Hi, I’m Ethan.

I’m Ethan McIntyre. I built Parline by myself, in Michigan, so people who run a business out of their own bank account can see where the business ends and they begin.
Why I built it
I didn’t start with a business plan. I started with a pattern. Working with small business owners, I kept seeing the same thing: one bank account carrying the business, the owner’s personal spending, and sometimes several businesses at once. A few of the situations I saw:
- One owner ran five sets of books through a single account: a nonprofit, two LLCs, a sole proprietorship, and their own personal spending.
- A seller of outdoor gear had never separated spending from the business.
- A food maker struggled at tax time to work out which expenses were truly deductible.
- An online bookseller who also ran pop-up events couldn’t separate revenue from personal spending.
- A jewelry maker planning an exit couldn’t tell how profitable the business had really been over the last few years.
Untangling each one by hand was slow, and I kept wishing for a tool built for exactly that job. Parline is that tool.
My background
I graduated from the University of Michigan with a computer science degree in May 2026, and I’m in the one-year Master of Accounting (MAcc) program at the Ross School of Business, finishing in May 2027. Alongside my studies, I support small businesses in Detroit. Parline is where those two halves meet: real double-entry accounting, taught as you go, in software simple enough for one person to run. Outside of work, I enjoy ballroom dancing and playing guitar.
Other work
I also built a free Roth conversion planner that finds the year-by-year schedule for converting a traditional IRA to a Roth. It runs entirely in your browser: nothing is sent or saved, and it is not tax advice.
What Parline is, and is not
- It keeps real double-entry books and produces a balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement.
- It is a bookkeeping tool, not tax advice, and the AI Health Check is never called an audit.
- The free plan is a real tool, not a trial: unlimited books, and up to 2,000 transactions in total.
How I handle your data
- Your books belong to you. You can export your transactions and accounts as CSV on any plan, and delete your account yourself.
- Parline’s own traffic counting uses no cookies, runs only on public pages, and sends nothing to a third party.
- I am one person, so I keep what I collect small. The Privacy Policy lists the services that handle your data.
